Why APEC?

The APEC Secretariat seeks a Communications Associate who will play a critical role in communications and public affairs operations of the APEC Secretariat to effectively raise internal and external awareness and understanding of APEC, its achievements and activities to key target audiences and among stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the successful candidate will work with cross-functional partners to assist with content management, program delivery, stakeholder engagement, procurement and budget.

They will thrive in a multicultural organization and bring experience in policy communications, international affairs and the multilateral environment. We’re looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, keen instincts and sound judgment.

Working within a dynamic team and with a rotating set of hosts, they will engage partners that take into consideration regional priorities, cultural requirements and geopolitical matters.

Why does the job/role exist?

The Communications Associate reinforces the Secretariat’s Communications and Public Affairs Unit (CPAU) and provides overall administrative support for its operations to support the delivery of all aspects of communications and public affairs activities. The candidate liaises and coordinates with the Executive Office; within the team, across all corporate, policy and programming units; with government officials and the private sector in matters related to communications and public affairs.

3. Key Accountabilities/Duties

  • Coordinating with stakeholders, including internal corporate units, government officials and the private sector
  • Assisting in maintaining online content production and publications
  • Drafting correspondence, agendas and schedules
  • Preparing presentations and reports for staff and stakeholders
  • Tracking media exposure and updating stakeholder contact databases
  • Facilitating effective meetings and organizing capacity building programs and workshops
  • Facilitating procurement and maintaining inventory by sourcing vendors, maintaining relationships, and tracking assets and service delivery
  • Developing budgets, monitoring expenses and reporting
  • Providing logistics support and documentation for outreach activities or events
  • Archiving key documents and correspondence

Education/Experience, skill sets and essential/critical competencies for the role.

Education Bachelor’s degree: Communications;  International Relations; Economics; Public Policy, Business, etc
Relevant Experiences
  • 3-5 years’ experience in administrative support and project management with interests in international/regional government, corporate communications, public relations practice and/or other related fields.
  • Understanding of public affairs, multicultural communications, budgeting, project management, and reporting.
  • Strong organizational skills with an eye for details
  • Proactive and able to work on multiple tasks
  • Stellar people skills as they are required to deal with senior public officials and private sector executives in an international setting
  • Service oriented; analytical; reliable  and conscientious; good team player
  • Interest in communications, media, and public affairs
Skill Sets

Must have

  • Command of English, articulate spoken language and strong writing
  • Strong understanding of trade and economic policy and the policymaking process across Asia-Pacific governments
