The APEC Healthy Women, Healthy Economies (HWHE) initiative brings together government officials, researchers, businesses, international organizations, and civil society to advance policies and practices that improve women’s health and strengthen economic participation across the Asia-Pacific region.
Founded on the principle that healthy women are essential to sustainable economic growth, HWHE promotes evidence-based approaches to address health barriers that can limit women’s ability to enter, remain in, and advance within the workforce. The initiative supports collaboration across sectors to identify practical solutions, share best practices, and encourage policies that improve health outcomes and economic opportunity for women.
Through research and knowledge sharing, HWHE has highlighted innovative approaches to maternal health, disease prevention, workplace wellbeing, caregiving responsibilities, and women’s access to healthcare services. The initiative also recognizes outstanding research through the annual Healthy Women, Healthy Economies Research Prize, which showcases evidence that has informed public policy and improved health and economic outcomes across APEC economies.
