Decarbonizing power systems is critical to reducing emissions and reaching global carbon neutrality, and to the broader goal of addressing the urgent challenge of climate change, which has been affirmed in the Putrajaya Vision 2040 and other commitments as central to APEC’s work. Public-private cooperation will be critical, as governments cannot meet this challenge alone. This report draws on the discussions and recommendations made during two workshops hosted by the APEC Energy Working Group in 2021, which convened a broad array of expert stakeholders and focused on power system decarbonization in APEC economies. The report provides key recommendations for policy interventions, as well as corporate actions and commitments, that APEC member economies and private sector stakeholders may take to help meet our collective decarbonization goals.
