Montreal Meeting of Asia-Pacific Business Leaders - May 9-13

Leading business figures from around the Asia-Pacific region will convene in Montreal on May 9-13 for the Second 2006 Meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council.
Made up of senior business people that are hand picked by the Leaders of APEC's 21 Member Economies, ABAC meets four times each year in a different location to address issues of concern to the regional business community. Through this process ABAC prepares a series of recommendations that are delivered to APEC Leaders at their annual meeting. This year the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting will take place in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, on November 18-19.
The ABAC Montreal Meeting will include sessions with Canadian business people and symposiums on business facilitation and trade liberalization.
Meetings and luncheons will take place at the Hotel Omni (Mont-Royal) on Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal.

Tuesday May 9, 1200
- Hon. Sergio Marchi, Senior Business Advisor, Lang Michener LLP (former Canadian Ambassador to the WTO) - on progress within WTO and the role of business;
- Robert Greenhill, President, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) - on the role of the private sector in development;
Wednesday May 10, 1200:
- Michael Klein, Vice President, Private Sector Development, World Bank/International Finance Corp - on promoting ease of doing business as a development tool;
Thursday May 11th at 0730:
- Hon. Raymond Bachand, Quebec Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Trade - on strengthening Quebec's trade and investment ties with Asia Pacific;
- Dr. Wendy Dobson, Director of the Institute for International Business, University of Toronto - on the proliferation of trade agreements and prospects for Asia Pacific free trade
Friday May 12th at 1030:
- Latin American Economic Update Briefing, featuring Mr. Hernán Somerville, President, Chilean Business Association - on the economic outlook for Latin America
