Upcoming APEC Science Ministers' Meeting Draws Regional R & D Leaders

Research & Development Leaders from the APEC region have a unique opportunity to influence how their economies capture value from science when they meet in Christchurch from March 10 to 11.
Those who drive R&D in both private and public enterprises in the APEC region, will meet to explore and debate the theme of 'capturing value from science', with input from leading experts from around the globe.
At the end of the two day meeting R&D leaders will sit down with APEC Science Ministers, gathering for the first time since 1998, and have direct input into their thinking.
The R&D Leaders programme and line-up of speakers reflects the demand for science to generate economic wealth. Speakers include:
Dr Gregory Yurek, President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of American Superconductor Corporation
Dr Lee Ki-Won, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics, Korea
Professor Tom Furness, Director Human Interface Technology Lab, University of Washington, USA and University of Canterbury, New Zealand
Dr Cristian Samper, Director, Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, (Washington, DC)
Dr Rita Colwell, Director of the US National Science Foundation
Yoshio Matsumi, Executive Counsellor and General Manager of the Innovative Technology Business Development Office for the Itochu Corporation
Professor Alan MacDiarmid, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2000 and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania
R&D leaders meeting in Christchurch will also get to see world leading science and technology from New Zealand and other APEC economies at the accompanying Innovation Showcase, which will provide a series of commercial opportunities for APEC business delegations.
