This report explores the vital role of women entrepreneurs in startups across the APEC region, highlighting their valuable contributions, such as fresh viewpoints, unique experiences, and sense of women customer segments. However, the report also underscores a significant knowledge gap due to insufficient quantitative and qualitative data on women's entrepreneurship in APEC economies. The report utilizes data, interviews, and policy analysis to assess the prevalence, challenges, and policy solutions related to women-led startups. It identifies barriers such as inadequate access to finance, limited mentorship and networking opportunities, underrepresentation in STEM fields, and societal perceptions about women's roles in business.
The study provides policy recommendations to enhance the support ecosystem for women entrepreneurs. Proposed measures include increased funding opportunities through grants and venture capital, fostering mentorship and peer networks, promoting STEM education among young women, and introducing equitable workplace policies. By sharing best practices and analyzing policy impacts, APEC member economies can collaboratively empower women entrepreneurs, unlocking their potential for economic growth and innovation in the startup ecosystem.
