APEC Food Security Ministers Issue Joint Statement
APEC ministers responsible for food security issued a joint statement following their meeting in Incheon, to strengthen cooperation on building productive, sustainable, resilient and innovative agri-food systems.
The statement reflected the discussions from the ministerial meeting chaired by Song Miryung, Minister Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of the Republic of Korea, under the theme “Driving Innovation in Agri-food Systems for Shared Prosperity.”
Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, the Aotearoa Plan of Action, the Bangkok Goals, and the APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030, recognizing the urgent need to address challenges such as extreme weather, supply chain disruptions, labor shortages and rising food prices.
They underscored the importance of innovation as a catalyst for stronger food security, inclusive participation in food systems, improved rural connectivity, and the role of trade in ensuring open, fair, transparent, and resilient agri-food systems.
