The APEC Automotive Dialogue (AD) is APEC’s primary public–private forum on automotive policy and emerging vehicle technologies. It convenes government officials, industry leaders, and academic experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to exchange views and develop practical, forward-looking policy approaches.
The AD formulates and delivers recommendations to APEC Ministers and Leaders.
Mandate and Core Activities
The Automotive Dialogue advances its mandate through three
core areas of work:
Policy Discussions — Facilitating focused dialogue on trade, regulatory, and cross-sectoral policy issues to generate actionable recommendations across the trade, transport, and energy domains.
Capacity Building — Delivering targeted workshops and initiatives that enhance the ability of government and industry stakeholders to respond to the transition toward new vehicle technologies and evolving mobility systems.
Research and Policy Tools — Commissioning analytical studies and developing practical policy tools to support member economies in designing frameworks for the safe, efficient, and sustainable deployment of emerging vehicle technologies and related infrastructure.

Recent Activities – APEC 2026
In 2026, the Automotive Dialogue (AD) convened two plenary meetings in China: AD43 in Shanghai (12-13 May) and AD44 in Dalian (20-21 August). The meetings brought together government and industry representatives from across the Asia-Pacific region to exchange views on developments shaping the automotive sector and to strengthen public-private cooperation.
At AD43, participants discussed automotive market developments, supply chain resilience, vehicle electrification, intelligent connected vehicles, and related regulatory developments. The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences on emerging mobility trends and industry priorities.
Building on these discussions, AD44 focused on future mobility, including hydrogen-related technologies, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and workforce development. Participants also explored opportunities to enhance regional cooperation in support of innovation and growth in the automotive sector.
Throughout the year, the AD continued to foster public-private dialogue on key issues shaping the future of the automotive industry in the Asia-Pacific region.

AD45 and AD46 will be hosted by Viet Nam in 2027. Further details will be announced in due course.
