The APEC Photo Contest is Back, Open for Submission

APEC Secretariat Singapore | 22 July 2021

The APEC Photo Contest is back and now accepting entries from photography enthusiasts in the region.

The contest requests participants to submit a maximum of three photos that interpret either the theme of APEC 2021 New Zealand, “Join, Work, Grow. Together.” or one of the priorities:

  • Road to strengthening economic recovery
  • Inclusive and sustainable recovery
  • Innovation and a digitally enabled recovery

Participants may use a professional camera, digital camera or mobile phone camera. Photos may only contain minor digital manipulations. Participants must also be citizens or residents of one of the APEC member economies to qualify.

“The pandemic has resulted in some of the toughest challenges faced by a generation,” said APEC Secretariat Executive Director, Dr Rebecca Sta Maria. “As we slowly claw our way back to recovery, we look to the people of the APEC region to help us tell your stories through pictures.”

“More than just a competition, the APEC Photo Contest provides a chance for policymakers to engage with the wider APEC community,” Dr Sta Maria explained. “This year’s submissions will help us to understand how the public perceives APEC’s theme and priorities, thus providing valuable feedback for all of us.”

Photos may be submitted through an online form and/or by tagging APEC on Instagram using the hashtag #APECPhotoContest2021, before the deadline on 27 September 2021 at 23:59 (Singapore, GMT+8).

Photo submissions will be evaluated by an international panel of judges, based on the reflection of APEC’s priorities and messages for 2021, as well as composition, quality and creativity. More information and contest guidelines can be viewed here.

The first place winner of the Judges’ Prize will receive SGD 2,500. The second and third place winners will receive SGD 2,000 and SGD 1,500 respectively.

The top finalists will be revealed on 6 October. The public will then subsequently be able to vote for their favorite images via a link posted on APEC’s Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram pages until 25 October. The photograph that receives the most engagement will win the Popular Choice Award valued at SGD 1,000.

Those who participate in the contest through Instagram also stand a chance to win the APEC Influencer Award, along with SGD 1,000. The winning post will be picked based on the photo’s interpretation of the APEC 2021 theme and priorities as well as its engagement.

The winners of this year’s APEC Photo Contest will be announced when senior officials and ministers from APEC member economies convene virtually in November during the 2021 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.
