This Policy Partnership on Science Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) project sought to strengthen APEC’s carbon neutrality aspiration through the eco-innovation capacity of APEC economies' energy sector. This project’s approach included developing strategic approaches and pathways for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data into the eco-innovation practices of APEC’s energy sector. This project hosted a webinar in August 2025 to facilitate a deep dive session into identifying challenges faced by APEC economies in achieving carbon neutrality. In November 2025, this project hosted a 2-day workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to facilitate in-depth discussions on pathways of lowering APEC GHG emissions using AI, big data and eco-innovation. This project fostered closer co-ordination and collaboration between the various stakeholders that reduced barriers and offered solutions to addressing APEC’s GHG emissions. The lessons learnt and policy recommendations developed by this project will serve as valuable inputs for future APEC PPSTI work.
