APEC ensures that goods, services, investment and people move easily across borders. Members facilitate this trade through faster customs procedures at borders; more favorable business climates behind the border; and aligning regulations and standards across the region.

This report documents the organisation, discussions, and outcomes of the 2025 APEC Symposium on Energy Transition held in Kuala Lumpur. It provides a structured account of keynote presentations, thematic forums, and focus group discussions involving policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders. The symposium explored the interconnected roles of EVs, FCVs, batteries, and hydrogen systems within broader energy and mobility transitions. Key themes included infrastructure readiness, regulatory coordination, supply-chain resilience, and public acceptance. The report highlights the complementary roles of battery-electric and hydrogen technologies across different transport contexts and stages of development. It also underscores the importance of science diplomacy, research collaboration, and capacity building in supporting evidence-based policy. The outcomes informed the accompanying policy report and strengthened regional dialogue on sustainable transport transitions.
