Description

This publication presents the Summary Report of the APEC International Symposium Disaster Resilience for a Sustainable Future – Exchanging Experiences in Geospatial Information Management in the Context of Forest Fires, held in Santiago, Chile on 22–23 August 2025 under Project EPWG 101 2024A. The Report consolidates key findings, lessons learned, and transferable best practices shared by APEC member economies on the strategic use of geospatial information for forest fire risk management. It synthesizes technical presentations, case studies, facilitated discussions, and insights from a complementary international consultation. The Report highlights the role of geospatial governance, operational integration, multi-source data use, early warning systems, post-fire assessment, multi-level disaster management, and capacity building. Its objective is to support policy makers, disaster management authorities, and technical institutions by providing practical and policy-relevant insights that strengthen disaster resilience and promote regional cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region.
