Description

Guidelines for MPA Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Community Development in APEC Economies is a core output of APEC Project OFWG_104_2024A, drafted by Chinese experts and reviewed by APEC economy participants. Rooted in field surveys of China’s Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Yantai MPAs, plus practices from other APEC economies, it addresses marine ecosystem threats like climate change and overfishing. The guidelines cover guiding principles (EBM, equity, inclusion), integrated management, community engagement, restoration technologies, blue economy, and policy recommendations. It emphasizes transnational cooperation, community participation, and balancing conservation with livelihoods, targeting policymakers, MPA managers, and NGOs. Key outcomes include actionable strategies for climate resilience, alternative livelihood support, and regional collaboration, aiming to foster sustainable MPA management and shared prosperity across the APEC region.
