This publication aims to assist APEC members in understanding the different methodologies for conducting shoreline marine debris surveys to better assess and understand the amounts, distribution and types of marine debris on shorelines in the region. It also provides background information and explanatory text and tables that can help in selecting the most appropriate marine debris monitoring framework to measure marine debris, based on needs and local conditions and capacities. This document will ultimately lead to a greater understanding on the importance of monitoring of marine debris in the environment and to increased amount of marine debris monitoring surveys conducted in the APEC region.
