APEC Photo Contest 2013: call for entries

APEC Secretariat Singapore | 01 July 2013

The 2013 APEC Photo Contest opened to photographers from across the Asia-Pacific region on Monday.  Entrants are invited to submit their interpretations of APEC’s 2013 priorities which include increasing trade and investment, greater sustainable growth with equity and improving connectivity.

The winners of this year’s APEC Photo Contest will be announced when Senior Officials from APEC’s 21 member economies meet on 1-2 October during APEC Economic Leaders’ Week  in Bali, Indonesia.

“Images submitted to the APEC Photo Contest inspire policymakers to focus clearly on their work to develop a better business environment, improve growth and deliver greater prosperity to more people in the region,”  said Dr Alan Bollard, the APEC Secretariat’s Executive Director. “The public’s interpretations of these critical issues through photography help us to look beyond figures and statistics and guide our efforts.”

The APEC Secretariat first launched the APEC Photo Contest in 2011.  The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers from APEC economies. Each participant can submit up to three entries until 16 August 2013, the closing date.

The winning photographs will be selected by an international panel of judges. They include:  Eric Baradat, Editor-in-Chief of AFP Photo; award-winning photographer Palani Mohan; Arbain Rambey, the Photo Editor of Indonesian daily Kompas; Ambassador Yuri Thamrin, the 2013 Chair of APEC Senior Officials Meeting and Dr Bollard.

“The APEC Photo Contest has been a great platform for photographers from all around the Asia-Pacific to demonstrate their creativity and talent,” said Baradat who has served on the judging panel since the contest began. “We look forward to seeing many more outstanding images from amateurs and professionals alike.”
