This handbook provides information and guidance to help increase the chances of turning an APEC independent inventor’s patented invention into an innovation, hence into a profitable business. The document focuses more on the two most sensitive aspects for the development of independent inventions: product prototyping and technological commercialization. The handbook is developed based on lessons learned and best practices gathered through interviews with specific successful independent inventors from the APEC region, as well as the results of surveys and the analysis of information on policies and programs on innovation and intellectual property conducted among certain APEC economies.
