Updated: Media Registration for APEC Economic Leaders’ Week Opens

Media registration is now open for the 2020 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week which will be hosted by Malaysia virtually and chaired by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from 11-20 November 2020.

THEME & PRIORITIES

Leaders’ Week will bring together the Leaders, Ministers and Senior Officials of the 21 APEC member economies, which account for half of global trade and 60 per cent of world GDP.

Under the theme, “Optimising Human Potential towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity:
Pivot. Prioritise. Progress” the focus will be on addressing the health and economic impact brought by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as charting the new vision for APEC as a forum beyond 2020.

Policy priorities include improving the narrative of trade and investment, inclusive economic participation through digital economy and technology and driving innovative sustainability.

Logistical details:

The APEC Ministerial Meeting will be held virtually on 16 November 2020 from 20:00 – 23:35 Kuala Lumpur (GMT+8) and chaired by Malaysia’s Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dato Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali. The meeting will see the participation of both Ministers Responsible for Trade and Foreign Affairs Ministers from APEC member economies. A media conference is scheduled after the meeting by the chair.

The 2020 APEC CEO Dialogues is hosted by the Malaysia delegation of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). The inaugural APEC CEO Dialogues will be a 24-hour program, inviting APEC’s business and government leaders to discuss the region’s priorities in the aftermath of COVID-19.

The APEC Economic Leaders Meeting will be held virtually on 20 November 2020 from 20:00 – 22:05 Kuala Lumpur (GMT+8) and chaired by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Leaders from 21 APEC member economies will attend, including the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgiva as guest.
