Join the 2016 APEC Photo Contest!

APEC Secretariat Singapore | 09 August 2016

The 2016 APEC Photo Contest is now open for submissions, offering entrants the opportunity to win a cash prize for providing a visual interpretation of improving economic growth and living standards in the Asia-Pacific.

This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of engineering more inclusive, sustainable and secure economies to build on the region’s progress. Amateur and professional photographers alike may submit photos reflecting one of the following priority areas being addressed by the 21 APEC member economies in 2016 to realize this shared objective:

  1. Developing human capital
  2. Modernizing micro, small and medium enterprises
  3. Enhancing the regional food market
  4. Advancing regional economic integration

The contest welcomes your depiction of greater interconnectivity of people in the Asia-Pacific, increasing participation in business and trade, securing food supplies, and supporting thriving workforces through better education and skills development.

“APEC is actively working to channel the forces of globalization and social and technological change in ways that open up economic opportunities needed to make lives better for more people,” said Ambassador Luis Quesada, 2016 Chair of the APEC Senior Officials, who will meet on 27-28 August in Lima, Peru to take the next step.

“We want to see how the public interprets the region’s progress towards higher standards of living,” added Dr. Alan Bollard, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat. “With advances in mobile technology, it’s now easier than ever to snap a picture at a moment’s notice that captures the photographer’s view of how far we’ve come and how we can go further.”

To submit your entries, please visit the APEC Photo Contest page. Entries are due by 2 October 2016 at 23:59 (Singapore time/GMT +8).

Judges will select four winners who will each receive a cash prize (in Singapore dollars): 1) First Prize: SGD 2,000; 2) Second Prize: SGD 1,500; 3) Third Prize: SGD 1,000; and 4) a Popular Choice Award winner chosen directly by the public on social media: SGD 1,000.

Now in its fifth year, the APEC Photo Contest has received thousands of compelling images from around the Asia-Pacific. They illustrate how people and communities have been lifted by APEC’s work to achieve a more integrated, prosperous and resilient regional economy.

The photos are shared with APEC officials, further shedding light on how the public views the direction and goals of regional cooperation and helping to guide future decision-making.

The APEC Photo Contest is open to citizens and permanent residents of APEC member economies. Please click here for further details, including submission guidelines and judging criteria.
