VIDEO: Minister Silva Describes APEC Trade Ministers’ Agenda

APEC Secretariat Arequipa, Peru | 17 May 2016

"Trade is the engine to reduce poverty,” said Magali Silva Velarde-Alvarez, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism and Chair of the 2016 APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting, which begins on Tuesday.

In an interview on the eve of the meeting, Minister Silva explained the direction of trade growth and APEC’s future trade priorities. She gave context to what Peru will propose to make globalization and trade liberalization more inclusive in view of the slowdown in trade and lower growth forecasts.

Over the next two days, APEC Trade Ministers will address ways to enhance job creation and living standards via next generation trade and economic policy.

APEC’s 21 economies account for about 40 percent of the world population, half of global trade and 60 per cent of global GDP.
