Taking Care of Business: Environmentally Sustainable Tourism Accommodation (CD-Rom)
Governments and industry need up-to-date information on sustainable practices and technologies to be able to develop 'best practice' tourism and improve existing operations. In April 1999 the APEC Tourism Working Group held a Seminar and Visits Program - Taking of Business: Environmentally Sustainable Tourism Accommodation - to gather and share examples of Best Practice Environmental Initiatives in the area of tourist accommodation.

The Seminar informed participants of how to construct and operate sustainable tourist accommodation, and what standards and practices should be used in new facilities. Ways to modify existing facilities were also covered.

This Report is intended to provide the foundation for increased awareness and understanding of the significance of travel and tourism?s contribution to the economy of the APEC region. It will assist member economies to implement appropriate policy measures to prepare for the expected growth of travel and tourism and to capture the potential for new capital investment, foreign trade and job creation in the region. The Report contains the revised projections (taking into account of the effects of the Asian financial crisis) for APEC economies up to the year 2010.
