APEC Senior Officials Strongly Support a Conclusion to the Doha Round

Lima, Peru, August 23, 2008

During their meeting in Lima, APEC Senior Officials expressed their disappointment over the recent impasse in the WTO Doha Round negotiations in Geneva.

Real progress had been made which should not be lost. Concluding the Doha Round continued to be the highest trade priority for APEC economies.

APEC Senior Officials strongly supported the ongoing efforts in the WTO to reach a modalities agreement. APEC economies are committed to working together to achieve an ambitious and balanced outcome that delivered real commercial gains.

A successful conclusion to the Doha Round would provide a boost to a faltering global economy and especially benefit developing economies.
