Transport and transport regulation is the conduit that allows for actual integration among APEC Member Economies. Given that transport infrastructure directly affects the competitiveness of economies, this project seeks to exchange experiences on regulatory and competition policy issues related to transport, identify best practices on regulatory issues, and promote capacity building activities to improve overall infrastructure. The report concludes with a set of policy recommendations to develop greater efficiency in transport infrastructure facilities.

This seminar held in Ha Noi, Viet Nam brought together governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental organizations to discuss the social and economic implications of HIV/AIDS in APEC Economies. Whilst HIV is sometimes dismissed as a social pathology, the effects of HIV are an economic phenomenon. Hence, given the correlation of HIV to the competitiveness of economies, APEC can play a significant role. This report details APEC members' presentations on dealing with HIV control among migrants in their economies, and includes recommendations for intensifying cooperation amongst economies and improving social administrative policies in relation to HIV/AIDS transmission and migration.

In a collaborative project that took place under the auspices of the APEC Marine Resources Conversation Working Group (MRCWG), APEC Economies were provided with an accurate and up-to-date understanding of marine ecosystems and related issues that underpin economic development and trade facilitation in the region. The challenge for APEC Economies is to sustain economic growth while safeguarding and restoring the natural systems that support prosperity. This report outlines the research undertaken and addresses ecosystem management and marine resources sustainability issues.

This project seeks to identify APEC activities relating to the Bali Plan of Action (BPA), and to assess the progress of APEC Economies in implementing the BPA goals. The BPA was adopted by APEC Oceans Ministers in 2005. It aims to balance conservation and management of marine resources with regional economic growth. The stock-take also seeks to identify non-APEC activities of BPA relevance occurring in the region.
