| Convening just prior to the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, APEC Foreign and Trade Ministers will meet to review the key achievements of the APEC 2006 Year hosted by Viet Nam. They are likely to focus on how to strengthen the multilateral trading system; regional trade agreements and free trade agreements; and counter-terrorism measures. In addition, Ministers will meet with the APEC Business Advisory Council. |

The APEC CEO Summit 2006 will explore the theme, Towards One Community: Creating New Opportunities for Shared Development. Priorities for the CEO Summit include: promoting innovation for economic development; the challenges of sustaining economic reform; promoting the development of information and communication technology; facilitating the development of small and medium-sized enterprises; good corporate governance; and attracting foreign direct investment. The APEC CEO Summit 2006 in Ha Noi will also provide an unmatched opportunity to reinforce business networking among top business leaders in the region.

| APEC policy direction is provided by the 21 APEC Economic Leaders when they meet annually to consider individual and collective actions to open their markets and promote economic growth. Under the theme, Towards a Dynamic Community for Sustainable Development and Prosperity, agenda items for the meetings are likely to include actions to respond to the expanding and increasingly complex global economy and business landscape and establishing a common position to inject momentum into the stalled WTO DDA negotiations. Discussions are also expected to cover regional concerns ranging from terrorism to sustainable development. |
