Privacy Principles on the Agenda at Canberra APEC Seminar

The Attorney-General Philip Ruddock today welcomed delegates attending the APEC Data Privacy Seminar on the International Implementation of the APEC Privacy Framework. The Seminar allows participants to discuss issues raised by the transfer of personal information in the APEC region. It will focus on the use of Cross-Border Privacy Rules by business to provide certainty to their customers on how their personal information will be protected.

New Counter-Terrorism Chair Seeks to Increase Targeting of Initiatives
Canberra, January 21, 2007
The new chair of APEC's Counter-Terrorism Task Force, Ambassador Park Sang-ki, has announced that he will be seeking to implement highly targeted and tailor-made counter-terrorism capacity-building initiatives for the region. Other measures include strengthening cooperation between the CTTF and other APEC working groups as well as international or regional organizations such as the UN, G-8, and others and increasing cooperation with the private sector.
