Perth, Australia, February 14, 2007 APEC Mining Ministers meeting in Perth this week have agreed to work on breaking down the barriers to greater trade and investment in the minerals and metals sector. Ministers also agreed that cooperation and consultation will overcome significant challenges confronting resources security throughout APEC economies.

Sydney, Australia, January 29, 2007 Australia's Attorney General, Philip Ruddock, opened the Trading Ideas Symposium in front of approximately 500 IP professionals, business leaders and policy makers. Canberra, Australia, January 22, 2007 The Attorney-General Philip Ruddock today welcomed delegates attending the APEC Data Privacy Seminar on the International Implementation of the APEC Privacy Framework. The Seminar allows participants to discuss issues raised by the transfer of personal information in the APEC region. It will focus on the use of Cross-Border Privacy Rules by business to provide certainty to their customers on how their personal information will be protected.

Canberra, January 21, 2007 The new chair of APEC's Counter-Terrorism Task Force, Ambassador Park Sang-ki, has announced that he will be seeking to implement highly targeted and tailor-made counter-terrorism capacity-building initiatives for the region. Other measures include strengthening cooperation between the CTTF and other APEC working groups as well as international or regional organizations such as the UN, G-8, and others and increasing cooperation with the private sector.
