APEC 2nd Training Course on E-Trade and Supply Chain Management
Building on the successful implementation of the first training course conducted in Beijing in October, 2006, the second training aims to reduce the digital divide between SMEs in developing economies and those in developed APEC economies by applying E-business and supply chain management, integrating the expertise of both public and private sectors to better serve the needs of SMEs in the APEC region and accelerate the competitiveness of private business and SMEs in developing economies. It is expected that trainees from member economies will acquire competence in the application of e-trade, e-commerce, e-documents and e-certification. They will receive basic e-trade and supply chain management (SCM) information as well as technical skills so that they will be able to adapt the application and development of e-commerce in their own economy to the international framework of trade facilitation and investment liberalization.

5th APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting
The three-day meeting will focus on particular themes including transport security, safety and the role of transport in the facilitation of trade in the Asia-Pacific region. An Industry Showcase, highlighting the Australian transport industry, will also be staged for APEC delegates. The Industry Showcase will focus on innovation in transport safety and security in Australia and take a hands-on approach with demonstrations from all transport sectors. There will also be an opportunity for Transport Ministers and their delegations to interact with Australian industry representatives.

TMM is an important forum for shaping regional policies and projects to promote a safer, more secure, internationally competitive and environmentally sustainable transport system. It is also an opportunity to exchange ideas on current transport challenges in the region. Progress in this area has continued in reducing practical barriers to free trade and finding ways for transport systems to operate more efficiently across the supply chain.

Capacity Building Seminar for APEC economies: Public-Private Partnership for Poultry Industry Standards and Improved Veterinary Infrastructure to Combat Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)
This seminar will help APEC economies promote effective partnership between public and private stakeholders to meet mutual objectives for policies and veterinary infrastructure, especially aspects that concern surveillance and detection of HPAI. Participants will analyze models and consider options to strengthen partnership between public and private stakeholders to establish poultry industry standards and improve veterinary infrastructure to combat HPAI.

Successful examples of public-private partnerships in AI surveillance and detection will be shared. These could include discussion about live bird markets, animal health technical and policy forums and poultry and poultry product sanitary programs. This seminar is intended for senior policymakers from the public and private sectors. Ideally, each APEC economy would be represented by their senior national authority for animal health, a representative of the public health sector responsible for monitoring and preventing emerging infectious diseases, and a leader(s) of the national poultry association(s).
