Because of the need for transparent, accountable, regulatory, accreditation and quality assurance systems in all economies, governments have a major role in quality assurance, but the precise role and the level of involvement vary between economies and over time. This report on quality assurance systems in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies is based on a survey conducted by the Australian Universities Quality Agency and funded by the Australia Department of Education, Science and Training.

The purpose of the project is to strengthen the regulatory framework and implementation capacity for food safety and quality control in APEC. The report examines food safety in APEC, with a specific focus on Viet Nam.
