Women Entrepreneurs in e-Business Training Program Concludes
Seoul, Korea, July 8, 2006
The work of women e-Commerce entrepreneurs from around the Asia-Pacific has been given a boost this week with the "APEC Women's e-Biz Training 2006" that concluded today in Seoul, Korea. Held over six days, the training program sought to increase the competitiveness of women entrepreneurs, women leaders and policy makers involved with gender issues to improve their knowledge and skills in e-business.

APEC Supply Chain Security Seminar Strengthens Regional Security

The preparedness for the region to protect sea, land and air transportation supply chains from serious threats has been strengthened during a two day symposium that concluded in Singapore today. Attended by more than 350 policymakers, government officials and private sector representatives, the APEC Symposium on Total Supply Chain Security covered a range of topical issues relating to threats and vulnerabilities in the global supply chain.

Trade Ministers to Deliver Specific Proposals to Reignite WTO Negotiations
Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, June 1, 2006
APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade will continue to build momentum for a successful conclusion to the current round of World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations. In the meeting that was also attended by the Director General of the WTO, Pascal Lamy, ministers considered the text of a ministerial statement containing a series of specific proposals for consideration by WTO Members. The two day ministerial meeting began with one day of informal meetings, followed by the formal plenary session and the release of the ministerial statement on June 2.

Chinese Taipei Commits US$1 Million to Support Human Security Capacity Building Initiatives

Chinese Taipei has signed a Memorandum of Understanding committing US$1 million to assist APEC members to strengthen human security capacity building in their economies. The MOU identifies the details of the contribution that will be provided to the APEC Support Fund for projects in developing economies for areas such as counter-terrorism, health security, emergency preparedness and energy security.

Business and Government Representatives Highlight Value of Free Trade Agreements as Back-up for WTO Negotiations

Business leaders and government officials from APEC Member Economies have met in Ho Chi Minh City to clarify the business relevance of Regional Trade Arrangements and Free Trade Agreements (RTAs/FTAs). The 2006 APEC Policy Dialogue on RTAs/FTAs was the first to involve business representatives that included leading executives from FedEx, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and the Mexican Trade Business Organization Network.

Avian Influenza Ministerial Meeting Concludes with Release of Action Plan

APEC Ministers have adopted an Action Plan that will strengthen the ability of Member Economies to detect and respond to outbreaks of Avian Influenza in the Asia-Pacific. Covering five specific areas, the Action Plan lays down directives and requirements that will now be implemented at a domestic level by APEC Member Economies.
