Singapore, December 28, 2005 Ambassador Tran Trong Toan from Viet Nam will become the 14th Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat on January 1, 2006. The appointment of the new Executive Director will coincide with the change of APEC host economy from Korea to Viet Nam. |

Busan, Korea, November 17, 2005 The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Secretariat and Microsoft today signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of the APEC Information Management Portal.
The portal provides a web-based integrated platform for creating and managing projects, meetings and policy initiatives, thereby enhancing APEC productivity and organizational effectiveness. The system includes a Less Paper Meeting System. The portal is expected to improve collaboration capacity and knowledge sharing between APEC Member Economies and private sector representatives involved in APEC's work. |

Busan, Korea, November 16, 2005 The APEC Privacy Framework, which seeks to ensure the rapid cross-border flow of information and data while protecting consumers, businesses and governments from fraud and criminal activity, has been endorsed by APEC Ministers.
The Framework clarifies how information can be handled and will also improve information sharing among regulators and government agencies to enable the safe transfer of information between economies. |

Busan, Korea, November 14, 2005 APEC projects designed to strengthen the infrastructure and capacity of developing areas of the regional economy were given a boost in 2005 with the Budget Management Committee (BMC) approving 85 projects worth US$5,546,859. A further US$ 2,193,000 will be available for projects later in 2006. |

Singapore, November 11, 2005 Strengthening regulatory capacity and exchanging technical information for the safe introduction and use of agricultural biotechnology products will be the topic of an APEC annual meeting in Santiago, Chile from November 14 to 22.
The meeting is a forum for APEC agricultural experts from Member Economies to cover biotechnology research applications in aquaculture and food, the global status of transgenic crops, and applications for animal health and production. Economies will also report on the current status of their agricultural biotechnology programs. |
