| In their first meeting for 2008, Senior Officials will develop work plans and determine the tone for APEC 2008. The Senior Officials' plenary makes decisions on substantive work programs for 2008 and provides strategic guidance to fora on objectives and priorities for the year. Topics that may be considered include trade and investment liberalization and business facilitation; structural reform and behind-the-border issues; economic and technical cooperation (ECOTECH); and corporate social responsibility. Senior Officials' Meetings are held four times a year and are chaired by the host economy. |

| Discussions will address issues of trade facilitation in agricultural and biotechnological spheres and will include guidelines for food safety assessment in member economies, the implications of transparent policy and regulation on research and development, and issues specifically affecting research of biotech products in developing countries. |

| Aiming to build capacity and knowledge of structural reform issues, this seminar will address topics including domestic implementation within the agricultural sectors of member economies. Specifically, the objectives of this seminar are to facilitate the sharing of experiences, discussion of key requisites for success and to determine priority areas for further research and capacity building. |

| Ministers will meet as part of their commitment to achieve sustainable development in the region through improvements to the telecommunications and information infrastructure. With "Digital Prosperity: Turning Challenges into Achievements" as the central theme, Ministers will discuss and pool knowledge on issues including universal telecommunications, Internet access, pro-competitive regulatory regimes and liberalized markets. |

| Participants from APEC member economies will exchange information, experience and expertise on organic agriculture. In the workshop, a survey will assess the state of organic agriculture in the region and data will be used to review and analyze the impact of the existing atmosphere for agriculture, trade, environment, finance and other national policies on organic culture. Findings will be used to inform future programs and strategy. |

| The objective of the 5th APEC Small & Medium Enterprises Technology Conference and Fair is to build a platform of economic and technical exchange and cooperation for SMEs among APEC member economies so as to enhance their competitive edge in the global market. The event will provide a unique opportunity for SMEs to exchange their experience in technical innovation, display new products, explore new markets and seek business partners. Product exhibitions and business matching will also be organized. |
