| With more than 49 million SMEs in the Asia-Pacific region, the meeting of ministers and representatives from the Australian and international SME community will play a vital role in improving market access for SMEs in the APEC region. The Ministerial Meeting and Working Group program includes a series of workshops and dialogues involving government and small business representatives. It will seek to build on the momentum established at previous APEC meetings and make a contribution to the APEC year hosted by Australia. |

| Building on the successful implementation of the first training course conducted in Beijing in October, 2006, the second training aims to reduce the digital divide between SMEs in developing economies and those in developed APEC economies by applying E-business and supply chain management, integrating the expertise of both public and private sectors to better serve the needs of SMEs in the APEC region and accelerate the competitiveness of private business and SMEs in developing economies. It is expected that trainees from member economies will acquire competence in the application of e-trade, e-commerce, e-documents and e-certification. They will receive basic e-trade and supply chain management (SCM) information as well as technical skills so that they will be able to adapt the application and development of e-commerce in their own economy to the international framework of trade facilitation and investment liberalization. |
