Singapore, August 3, 2007 The United States will provide APEC with US$2.3 million in 2007 to support trade and investment facilitation and capacity building projects across the Asia-Pacific region. US$800,000 will go to the APEC Support Fund which supports projects for developing economies in the APEC region and US$1.5 million will go to the Trade and Investment Liberalization and Facilitation Special Account. |

Cairns, Australia, July 5, 2007 APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade have agreed to a new Trade Facilitation Action Plan to reduce trade transactions costs in the Asia-Pacific region by 5 per cent by 2010. It is envisaged that the plan will boost trade, reduce costs to business and benefit consumers in the Asia-Pacific region. |

Cairns Australia, July 3, 2007 The APEC Secretariat has launched a new Project Management Unit to coordinate the increasing number of APEC capacity building related projects. The creation of the Unit is a component of APEC's ongoing reform program. The objectives are to improve the coordination of project activities and to ensure that more cost-effective and targeted projects are undertaken. |

Cairns, Australia, July 3, 2007 APEC Member Economy representatives have reviewed the Study Report on New Zealand's Individual Action Plan (IAP) which was conducted by Independent Experts to assess New Zealand's progress towards APEC's free trade and investment goals. The Study declares New Zealand's regulatory environment as being amongst the best in the world and notes that wide-ranging reforms in the economy over recent decades have led to the economy becoming "one of the most open and flexible economies in the OECD area." |

It highlights the reform efforts that have been initiated including microeconomic reform, financial restructuring, and measures aimed at fostering innovation and creative talent to ensure future growth. |

Cairns Australia, June 26, 2007 Member Economy representatives met at the second APEC Data Privacy Seminar to discuss how APEC members will cooperate to build confidence in an accountable system for personal information moving across the Asia-Pacific region. The focus was on pilot projects that test how to best protect the transfer of personal information within the Asia-Pacific region while minimising further regulatory burdens on business. |

Singapore, June 13, 2007 APEC and the OECD furthered cooperation in efforts to help SMEs increase access to the global marketplace through a new report released at an OECD Global Conference, titled "Enhancing the Role of SMEs in Global Value Chains", held in Japan from 29 May-1 June. The Conference featured input from joint OECD-APEC surveys and an interactive session with the APEC Secretariat Deputy Executive Director, Ambassador Juan Carlos Capuñay. |
